Didn't know the best place to post this so here goes (mods move it if needed)

This is a west coast kinda question.....
If a guy was to come across a 1990 22' Radon in running condition without trailer, does anyone have a clue what a good price would be ?
This is an ex-lifeguard boat from fresh water, bare bones except for the cool light bar and hailer.
VP DP drive, no bow rail, top rail, bulkhead / door and it has a sun deck type engine cover, probably for bodies.

Anyway, I may have a line out for it but with all the bureaucracy it would need to go through for a sale it's probably a dream.......but one I could enjoy.

The pic is model reference only but anyone who drools when they hear the word Radon like I do already knows what it looks like.

...Assuming hull condition is fair to good...hours on the engine is the critical part...At 1,000 hours, most outdrives need a rebulld and double your maintenance issues compared to outboards...Another is engine brand...Volvo parts are expensive as hell and delays from Sweden are common.
....Can they provide a log of repairs and upkeep? .An in-person exam is called for...walk the deck for soft spots and look closely inside the stern end for rust streaks and leaks..Even freshwater boats have corrosion issues over time...Checking online is your best source of pricing, as prices have actually gone up during the pandemic....

I believe it's the big block version of that VP DP package, definitely not the diesel.
I'm well versed in the inspection aspect and also working on VP drive as well as others and all around repairs and mods.
I currently have 2 VP drives on my boats, an old 270 series with a straight 6 and a SX leg that I swapped into my originally Cobra pushed 351W boat.
These old style suspension fork VP drives are as strong as they get. Personally I'd be wary of a Bravo 3 long before this one.
The new SX series (gimbal type) require more periodic maintenance.
The online pricing self-check is very hard to do when there are literally none of these in the pool.

I know there's some Radon guys lurking that might have a real world feel for what this boat should fetch.

I'm still in the opening rounds of checking into this and I would certainly hope there would be a paper trail of maint. etc. with it coming from a government adjacency.

I would guess it's worth at least $4k to $7k just for the value of the hull. Probably a worn out motor that runs so add a couple thousand bucks. If you plan to fully refurbish this boat, plan to spend minimum $40k doing most of the work yourself. Galvanized trailer will cost you $3k for a used one to $8k+ for a new aluminum

Just my 2 cents...

I called pacific trailers last year to get a tandem axle galvanized trailer for my 20 cc and they told me it would start at 9k…. And I responded with no just the trailer I already have the boat… with as expensive as everything else is getting I would imagine a galvanized trailer costing over 10 grand now

Not sure where you're going to go to get an alum trailer for $8K but I'd love to know. Prices of metal is ridiculous right now .... I'm sure prices are higher now vs when I inquired (~12 months ago).

Everything has rapidly gone up in cost as of recent. I was shopping around early 2020 and I don't recall the trailer prices being that expensive. Cost of goods have really gotten out of control.

The price of aluminum and many other metals has gone up substantially. It has gone up about 230% in just the last two years and is still rising. Forget gold, just buy aluminum.

The price of gold and silver would tell aluminum "here hold my beer" if the govt would stop manipulating precious metals but they know when that happens the markets and economy will be in the shitter.

    Winner winner chicken dinner...

Please tell me what you know about it.
Everything mechanical is shot. Electronics are outdated. Wood is full of rot. That‘s why it only sits. Good luck buying anything from the county.

And this. Although it’s only still cheaper than buying new if your time isn’t very valuable.

What is your history with and or knowledge of this boat.
    Just curious.
It is currently floating at Puddingstone, has been for close to 2 years.

I’ve only talked to the operators but that was enough. Maybe it got an overhaul but it was dry for years at castaic.

Do yourself a favor. Buy a used 21 Parker and repower it with a 200 hp Suzuki or Mercury. You will be fishing and not stuck working on a boat.

I already have 2 turn key boats, I also have a sickness of enjoying working on boats so this would be a tinker project.
I never pay to have my junk worked on outside of any machine shop processes for engine builds.

Nice boats. If the hull is in good shape, do it. Especially if you like restoring boats. I admire folks who bring back classics to life again. Sure can't do it with people.

I’m in the same boat. Literally. I rebuild them and use them to the ground. Then rebuild. Good luck with that radon. I think I just saw a 21 in Santa Barbara area for sale.

If you need a trailer, contact Kokopelli trailers in Phoenix, Mine was 4200 delivered to my door for a custom made aluminum trailer with torsion axles and brakes.

How big was your trailer? Seems awfully cheap if it's anything more than 1 axle.
