...this section of the site. Well, not as much as my wife will be after she finds out I just ordered my third Okuma rod for my trip this fall. Already purchased a 741` PCH XXH and an XXXH and have been looking for an 8' rod for #40 live bait/jigs. Saw a mention of the PCH 801 so I looked on Amazon. Lo and behold they had the PCH 801 XH (30-60) for $166 with free shipping, so I ordered that. Looks like this fall, barring an agonizing death inflicted upon me by my wife, I will be Okuma Boy.

I sure hope I catch some fish and at least semi-redeem myself. :D

I don't have them officially set up yet. The XXXH won't be delivered until Friday, but the XXH will have a 2 speed Fathom 40 and the XXXH will have a 2 speed Fathom 60. When the 801 XH comes it will be paired with a 2 speed Fathom 30.

I own and have fished both those rods. I have an Andros 16 (filled with 100lb braid) on the XXH and a Makaria 20 (filled with 130 braid) on the XXXH. I mainly fish FlatFalls on the XXXH but I also used it with a 25yd topshot of 80lb flouro and fished bait with it before I bought the XXH. The XXH is mainly going to be for 60-80lb flyline/sinker rig and for smaller irons like Colt Snipers. I also own the PCH 701XH (30-60) that I've paired with a Metaloid 12 as 30-50lb bait rod.

I will say that these rods fish slightly lighter then they are rated, but it is not a big deal. Last fall I fought a cow sized Bluefin on the XXXH for over an hour before pulling the hook and the rod handled the fish just fine.

As with all Okuma rods, these are great value for the price, especially now that you can find them from on Amazon for less than list price (usually direct from Okuma). If you are looking of an inexpensive rail rod so not hesitate to buy one of these rods, especially now that it seems the bigger bluefin are going to be around for a while.

    Thanks for that.

I plan on using the XXXH for 80, the XXH for 60, and the 801XH for 40.

    For that I'll be using a Fenwick Seahawk Pacific 865 XHC (30-60) and a 2 speed TLD20.

I'm already half a step away from a dead man after buying 3 rods, if I buy another one now I might as well dig my own grave. LOL There's always next year though. :D

    Thomas,

The PCH-C-701XH, PCH-C-761XH or PCH-C-801XH 30-60 lb. I have the 7' version and it fishes 50 well. Pick the length you like and go for it.

I was at Turners and looked at the PCH Custom XXXH rod. Wow, it is a much stiffer rod than I expected. I could see it been used for jigging bluefin but without much rod tip give, I am apprehensive in any attempt to use it to cast a bait out. How are everyone else using this rod? Are you happy with it? Do you use it for trolling?

Just think how much trouble you could get into if you bought a set of Makaira SEa reels to go with those rods...

    She got off easy! :)

Hate is really such a strong word. Maybe you should say, "Strongly dislike," Or maybe just call the people that sell the gear racist because they sell gear to some people that can't keep themselves from buying it.

    No, seriously...

I'm offering you free therapy...step one...send me half of your gear...trust me, you'll feel better.
