Thanks for the info. I went there after church today to check out the wash downs. More pictures:

This beautiful rig only made it out cause he was on the end

The linier wash down isn't going to work. It will take 30 yards of space to swoop in on one of these. Most guys can even back the trailer in to the launch ramp.

Same goes for the tight spacing. How many dings do you think your truck, trailer or boat are going to suffer.

It is what it is. Time to go out and enjoy this beautiful day!

No gray water or sewage, paint, oils, etc.....but
I say BS on this. But i could be wrong. Oher than soap and freshwater, what else is being washed into the harbor. I don't think there is a law that prevents you from washing the soap off your boat or car, into the gutter.

Dana Point is going to be a major Cluster F this season.

Just in case no one has noticed yet, DP Harbor is currently trying to drive small boats out of the harbor. That’s a fact. They want this to be a big boat, ritzy harbor. In their mind, small boats equal the river crowd they get on the sand dunes in the basin during the summer. They want that element gone. Sorry if your offended.

You're bitter. I moved to Dana Point when there was no harbor. The break was a 1/4 mile offshore called killer Dana and you could ride it all the way to Doheny Beach. The harbor wiped that out. The Beach Boys put it in one of there songs

Those Hobo showers look like a really attractive nuisance.

They will ultimately have to go.

Can't you guys bring water from home?

You think weekedays will be ok? Sunset is closer and spacious, but Inorefer Dana when I’m fishing out that way. Not worth fighting for parking, which is tough enough with just a truck or car, and double a mofo with a big truck and boat trailer. I hope it’s not as bad as it’s sounding.

I was there today. It's bad. My boat is only 17' and it took me 30 minutes to squeeze it into the only park I could find. The lot is not laid out very well. The parking all goes the same way. if you've got a boat bigger than 20 feet it will be difficult to maneuver in the tight turns. I feel sorry for anyone parked on the end. There's gonna be trailers that get clipped. There are also some very short parks and boat trailers sticking out in the lane. Bad. Bad. Bad. The genius that thought this out should be given a time out. I am also bitter.

The tweakers will line you up and guide you back you into your spot. I bet they won't even ask for a handout.

Perhaps you can pay them to watch your boat all day?

If I'm understanding this right, it's not true. When the ramp was rebuilt several years ago they installed a narrow drain running the width of the ramp catching any runoff from the wash racks.

Yes they are and they can be driven over with no problem. But you don't need to. I've been driving around them and parking in the regular old trailer parking area.

Yes they did....but it is was not a drain to the sewer....just a drain to keep water from pooling. It drained to the Ocean/harbor, just like a gutter would. There is no reason to have a sewer line. The wash downs are not adding any "pollutants" to the harbor. No different then when people wash their boats at their docks.

Although One Leg was joking about hobo showers, I would put more merit in that as a reason to remove the washdown, then the "sewer" claim.

The wash rack I was referring to was inside the storage area over by the jet ski rental place for tenant use only. That one is the one that drained directly into the harbor.

Circled in orange in the lower right corner.

I don't think so, unless the hobos are climbing over the razor wire fence into the storage area at night, or swimming up to the guest docks and getting in that way.

Is the walkway/gate/opening that leads to the Warf Parking area, by the ramps gone?

Never mind...just saw your other reply.

The wash downs in the Ramp parking area could very well be used as hobo showers. Didn't even know they had washdowns in the storage/sea doo rental area.

I'm one of the lucky ones; my boat can be rinsed down at the ramp---or if it were to be shut down, rinsed at home, I have one of the old Orange County properties and room between my house and the neighbors, to put her under the tarp and rinse there. I fear that condition will go away at some point. And you are right about hassle, too much of that shit and you move on to doing something else.

Maybe that was the real reason they went from being free to costing 25 cents per minute of water a few years ago... keep the hobos from having free showers...

The inside wash rack made it really nice avoiding the clusterfuck at the main wash rack while it lasted.

With every plan I've seen, and the current "temporary" construction layout, it's pretty clear the engineers have never pulled a trailer with a vehicle before, as the photos upstream in this thread show. Until they make trailers with wheels that will steer through curves like a hook and ladder firetruck, none of their parking and driving lane layouts are going to work.

Such a bummer. Dana is going to suck. Dry storage is supposedly going to quadruple. Inside info I got recently...the guy in charge of the project was asking marketing people if he should change the name of Dana Point Harbor to something else. Marketing folks were like wtf...let’s ask some locals. The name we came up with...”Newport way”, or “New Management, Go eff Yourself”.

Sorry but parking lot ain’t coming back. Dude said they’re down to like 89 spots.
