fighting 120 lb halibut on a jig

I love my acid wrap rods that i built. I am not sure why there are not more of them out there. So many good things about them. If your hanging bait in the rod holder the rod doesnt flip over so the reel is down and you dont get any side to side motion of the reel when cranking up a biggin. I cant think of one reason why somebody would not want to use an acid wrap.

    What a lingcod day!
I caught 64 ling cod, 4 black bass, 3 yelloweye rockfish, 3 halibut on jigs and lost 3-4 halibut. I must caught 1500 lb fish at Icy Bay Lodge, AK today. . I kept one lingcod and 4 black bass and released them all.
The ticket is 6 oz Al Gag jig with paddle tail.
I used 6'8" Black Hole Charter Special Slow Pitch jigging rod and JM PE8 reel. Some lingcod were small, but many were 30 plus lb.
Biggest halibut was 58 lb. We drifted all day. We are
going to anchor tomorrow to catch bigger halibut.

We left for 30 miles offshore spot. But Capt decided to fish inshore again.
I wish we could fish offshore as it is date and night difference between offshore spot and inshore spot.
It was slow pick, but Ted got 97 lb halibut on a jig using Black Hole Cape Cod Slow Pitch jigging rod.
Tomorrow is the last day and I hope we fish offshore.

Sounds like the Captain wants to conserve fuel.

We went offshore again. We released lots of lingcod, yelloweye and 5 halibut upto 60 lb.
It seems everyone is happy. We plan to fish inshore tomorrow and Fri as three trips to offshore are demanding and we need some rest while catching smaller halibut.

not at all. Todd instructed to go offshore as many as possible. We might go offshore tomorrow if weather is good enough.

After three days hard jigging offshore, we fished inshore today.
We limited out black bass and halibut upto 30 lb.
I played them with ultra light 6'8" Black Hole Challenger Bank UL rods all day.
But I want to catch big halibut. I asked Capt Devon with smile whether we could go offshore tomorrow.
Devon said we could. You the Man,
    :)

We had the best halibut jigging today. I got 98 lb halibut on Al Gag jig using 6'8" Black Hole Charter Special Slow Pitch jigging rod.
Everybody had halibut on jigs and we released halibut in 50 - 60 lb range. Finally Icy Bay Lodge trip is over.
I have July 10 - 16 and 17-23, 2022 trip and both trips are booked already.

We have extra boxes of fish. Only two anglers opted to take 3 boxes and the rest take 2 boxes. I think we caught quite a few fish.

Wow, how a trip goes by so fast. I enjoyed following your reports, you got me excited. My 3 week Kenai river sockeye adventure starts 7/23 and I can hardly wait. I love a clear weather view on the flight up, always sitting on the right side of the plane. Sitka is my first landmark. The Fairweather range is an incredible site and I look along the beach for Yakutat then Icy Bay. When I see kayak point I know I'm getting close. Sorry I got off the subject of your trip daydreaming. Nice adventure!

Kil, It was a pleasure fishing with you and Jumee again. I arrived home yesterday at 1:00 PM and fish was frozen solid. Please thank Jumee for helping me at the airport and on the plane. Safe travels, Ken
Ken, it was a pleasure to fish with you again. My daughter takes care of me like she does to you. :)
    See you next year.

I have never used a Black Hole rod, what do you find special about them? Personally I find the rod is the least important part of the equation. Reels followed by line are number one and two in my opinion. I'm not an experienced jigger but I have done it with success using a G-Loomis and the Shimano Trevala, what makes the Black Hole your favorite.

The characteristics of Black Hole USA rods are lighter and stronger.
The jigging all day requires light rods.
