I am leaving for Alaska this evening to stay at Icy Bay Lodge for two weeks.
Here are two spots available on July 4 - 10 trip due to short notice cancellation.
The normal rate is $5500 and they reduce the rate to $4000 per person.
If you have money and time, I highly recommend to join life time experience.
It is possible to catch 500 plus lb big halibut and monster ling cod on light jigs per day.
In my opinion, the lodge is the best in the whole Alaska.
You can send messages to me or [email protected] when you want to join this fabulous trip.

I am leaving for Seattle tonight to take flight to Yakutat tomorrow morning.
I will be at the Icy Bay Lodge tomorrow afternoon and stay there for two weeks.
Weather looks good for two weeks.
See you tomorrow! Cannot wait to chase big halis and lings again. Maybe even a King salmon.

We arrived at the Icy Bay lodge in Alaska.
We are heading for offshore spot this morning as we have light wind. They got halibut upto 92 lb inshore rockpile yesterday. It is good to know there are pretty good sizes halibut close to the lodge just in case of bad weather. Wifi connection improved much and I can give uptodate report.
They have to bring all gas from the plane. Even in Yakutat, the gas price is $5 per gallon.

What a lingcod day!
I caught 64 ling cod, 4 black bass, 3 yelloweye rockfish, 3 halibut on jigs and lost 3-4 halibut. I must caught 1500 lb fish at Icy Bay Lodge, AK today. . I kept one lingcod and 4 black bass and released them all.
The ticket is 6 oz Al Gag jig with paddle tail.
I used 6'8" Black Hole Charter Special Slow Pitch jigging rod and JM PE8 reel. Some lingcod were small, but many were 30 plus lb.
Biggest halibut was 58 lb. We drifted all day. We are
going to anchor tomorrow to catch bigger halibut.

I am waiting for second day halibut trip out of Icy Bay Lodge. They say we leave at 8:30 am. For serious fishermen it is a torture by waiting for long for nothing in the morning.
🙂

I hope we catch big halibut today.
Capt said we fish rockpile 8 miles from the lodge.
In fact it was pretty rough. We stayed there about 3 hours and Hailey got the biggest halibut (60 lb) on a jig.
Capt decided to fish inside the Bay as some got seasick.
There were steady pick of small halibut on jigs. Everybody got limit (one under 32" and one over 32") except me. I got skunked halibut today. Instead I jigged 4 -5 huge skate upto 100 lb.
🙂

Tomorrow is non-halibut day. So we fish king salmon.

You caught 64 lingcod in one day? If you fished an 8 hour day nonstop that would be one every 7.5 minutes. You seriously caught 64 in one day.

Yes. I counted on purpose to post how many fish I caaught there a day.
When we fish that spot again, I probably take video how fast I can catch big lingcod on a small jig.

We went closer rockpile to catch black bass as we can not target halibut as today is non-halibut day.
But I had 103 lb halibut on 8 oz flat hammered diamond jig intended for black bass. The haliut released safely.
I used 6'8" Black Hole Charter Special Slow Pitch jigging rod and JM PE3 reel filled with Varivas PE5 line.
We limited out black bass (5 per person) and went king salmon fishing. King salmon didn't bite.
We are going 30 miles offshore tomorrow and we expect to do very well.

We left for 30 miles offshore spot. But Capt decided to fish inshore again.
I wish we could fish offshore as it is date and night difference between offshore spot and inshore spot.
It was slow pick, but Ted got 97 lb halibut on a jig using Black Hole Cape Cod Slow Pitch jigging rod.
Tomorrow is the last day and I hope we fish offshore.

We didn't go 30 miles offshore spot as we had one cracked gas tank. We stayed inshore rockpile again and caught limit catch of halibut ( one under 32' and one over 32"), but generally they were small.
I am very disappointed we couldn't go offshore spot which is famous for.
I am staying at the lodge and fish next week again.

Here is video of fighting 20 lb halibut using 6'9" Black Hole Challenger Bank 691 Ultra Light rods which are design for shallow water bucktailing for fluke.
I used 8 oz hammered diamond jig in 100' depth

The first group is leaving.
i feel sorry for them to fish the famous offshore spot only once.
Second group is arriving on Sunday. I hope they can fish offshore spot multiple times.
As long as they can fish offshore spot at least twice, it will be very successful trip for them. We have good weather next week.

We went to offshore spot with the new boat. The boat run great even in not favorable condition.
It was pretty rough and we drifted most of time.
We caught and released tons of big lingcod and yelloweye rockfish.
The biggest halibut was 120 lb on jig by Jimmy.
We had three in 50 lb range on jigs.

Looks like an excellent day. How does the new boat fit six anglers?

It took 1 1/2 hours to get to the offshore spot. I don't think we could ,make it with the flat bottomed old boat as it was pretty rough. I think it is too much for 6 anglers for the new boat.
