Can the folks who have been to IBL comment on type/quality of gear for halis and lings? Is there a need to bring my own gear? Do they primarily jig for the said species? Thanks for the comments.

They provide all tackle. But you can bring your own.
We fish pretty shallow in 80' - 120' using jigs. ( They provide jigs too).
But you are welcome to use bait.

I think we are the only boat which uses jigs only for halibut or big ling cod in whole Alaska.

Ksong, I can tell how much you like and endorse the Black Hole rods and I you are using the slow pitch jigging rods. I previously asked you the question of why you like them so much and your answer was their light weight allows you to use them all day long. When I looked up the slow pitch rods they averaged 7' and were one piece. Do you think Black Hole would consider making a travel rod series with small diameter guides that would allow a couple of rods to fit in a narrow 4' rod case that can easily fit in a overhead carry-on compartment. I would love to bring some jigging rods up to AK but not in their full length.

I bring my two piece in the cabin closet on Alaska Airlines when flying north. 57” is the long piece. Usually carry two rods, the other being a 5’1” two piece for 350 gram jigs.

Model for SPJ: B-632H2MF

Thanks Almud, my long rod case can take a 57" pole section. High quality sectional saltwater rods are what I'm interested in. I have asked this question before and now own a Buzz Ramsey rod and recently learned about the Santiam rods. I think there is a market for high quality "carry-on" fishing rods. I propose the question to Ksong for his thoughts regarding "Black Hole" making a wider selection of 2 piece traveling rods.

We have two pieces Black Hole Cape Cod jigging rods which are designed for travelers. But most are out of stock now.
The 6'3" and 6'6" Black Hole Cape Cod Slow Pitch jigging rods are two-piece.

Schedule changes of Icy Bay Lodge, AK
Todd told me the schedule changes.
Arriving date is Sat instead of Sun. and leaving the lodge on next Sat. That means we can fish 6 days instead of 5 days.
Contact Tooo Robertson for more info.
Still we have spots available on July 9 - 16 and 16 -23 trips.

It is good we can fish 6 days instead of original 5 days without extra charge.
If you are light jigging lovers for halibut, join this trip. The lodge is probably one of the best halibut jigging destinations in the whole Alaska.
Here are pictures of last year's trip.

nice halibut caught IN THE BAY at Icy Bay Lodge, AK yesterday.
This is the first time I heard big halibut are caught in the bay very close to the lodge. It looks big body of decent size halibut moved into the bay this year.
That is great news we still can catch nice halibut in the bay in case we can not go offshore due to weather.
A few spots are still open on July 9 - 16 and July 16 - 23
They offer 6 days trip instead of 5 days without raising prices this year.

Many big halibut moved into the inshore rockpile this year. It is great news we catch nice halibut close to the lodge when we can not go to offshore due to weather.
