Black internationals, including star drags.

Handle upgrades that can withstand the advertised drags.

Have a jigging model that people can easily customize. Like removing a speed lock or mag breaks, different handle options, football or t-bar

It was because he didn't mention it, that I asked.
Because it’s already on there, right?

Do us a favor and keep the penn legacy.
Stop trying to be state of the art with failed concepts and make the tried and tru, truer.

I may not have traveled as much as some but I’ve traveled more than most. On the back of every panga Is a penn star drag. It’s a beefed up 9/0 or 12/0 and spooled with dacron. A short mono top shot absorbs shock and they land 100-300lb fish from Darwin to Japan. That means bogonvillle, Palau, Iwo Jima and all the places in between.

When I look at my inflatable, my boat and the boat I want to purchase this year I’m looking for reels that will fit the bill for every scenario and who makes those reels.

Penn is gettin too caught up in a color scheme and drag numbers that pull any ordinary 20ft skiff around like a trolling motor…
Refine the international so the damn handle doesn’t bend
Create solid frame senators up to the 12/0 size
Create the best narrow jigging real available.

I would like all model in left hand please.
Us left-handers are the last minority that doesn't get any perks with our left-hand handicaps. Kidding aside it's better than ever for fishing and hunting gear but when you see a piece of equipment that you really would like and no it's not available in left-hand is disappointing. At least Avet has all their models available in left-hand but I think one of the partners is left-handed and didn't want to be left out too.

Reel to compete against Tranx 500 and black internationals.
I think the finish in the second gen Penn Fathoms is sub par. The silver paint on two fathoms has dings after just ONE TRIP. I suspect it cost more to get the BLACK finish on the first gen Fathoms, but it is definitely more durable than the silver paint…My two cents…

The second Gens are subpar to the first Gen based on design alone.

Penn needs to just not with some of the dumb sizes… a two speed Fathom 12? For what on Earth?

Instead that money could’ve been diverted into I don’t know, better manufactured handles.

    I can’t think of anything I couldn’t do with an 8XN, that I would do with a 12LD2.

Nothing is anywhere yet, that's why I brought it up.
He did mention instant engage, which I personally would not want, though I probably would want spool lock.
Its always good to hear what different anglers want.
I fish mostly in Florida and it’s bottom fishing for me. I go to Venice for Tuna and such. Having said that, I find that I barely use the spool lock when jigging in Florida and never when tuna fishing.
That is not a feature that I have to have.
The auto engage…. Yes that is a great feature for jigging. It is much faster to just turn the handle and be on the handle when the reel engages and the line goes tight. And it’s a great feature when the jig is hit on the drop. That feature I think is important.

As for what I would like?
Yes a Tranx / Lexa type reel. But maybe in the Torque style of all machined and minimal plastic. I still have and love my Penn 955.

I think overall the Gen 2 fathoms are better except for the finish. Sub par. Just like on the old toriums and current speed masters.

I would suggest also a Makaira 15T answer. It’s a great reel that fills a very good niche. I think it would go over well and better than the Penn 12.

Black or gunmetal color options lol:)

    I don't get the haters.

Penn revolutionized reel design 12-15 years ago with the Torque star drags. They have unmatched free spool, power, and line capacity. Nothing even comes close to what they did with star drags. The Daiwa's are nice but lack line capacity and the company is not responsive to its customers. Bring the Torques back, with one that is a little taller than the 25/30 size! SOCAL highliners will always buy them, especially if another 5 pounds is engineered into the drag.

The Fathom 2 speeds changed the game at intense fisheries like Guadalupe. They were cheap, indestructible, and free spooled like no other reel in its class. All of that was due to superior engineering, design, and state of the art manufacturing.

The Gen 2 Fathoms in some ways are better: integrated drag cam with a better drag curve and less variability in drag output, and much easier to service. They are narrower and lighter. People blame corporate cheapness; I see superior engineering. I do hate the paint. They are not perfect, but it is a great product at a fair price.

Penn has pushed the engineering, design, and materials further and better than anyone, while being more dependable than any other manufacturer, at a better price, and by far the best rep in the business for Southern California fishing. I look forward to what they do next.

I get what you’re saying and completely agree, but I’m not picking up on much hate, just spitballing ideas.
