I like the versatility of lever drag. Also allows for huge drags . Maxel Rage has drags on both sides of the spool.Star drag, lever drag, or both?
Star drag seems to be the easiest if you can put enough drag on a 100lb bluefin.Star drag, lever drag, or both?
What He said x100. The Fathoms are nice reels but the Torque star drags were/are in another class.Reintroduce Torque star drags.
Produce Torques/Internationals in black.
West coast fishermen don’t fish structure enough to appreciate it.
Because it’s already on there, right? It was because he didn't mention it, that I asked.
Us left-handers are the last minority that doesn't get any perks with our left-hand handicaps. Kidding aside it's better than ever for fishing and hunting gear but when you see a piece of equipment that you really would like and no it's not available in left-hand is disappointing. At least Avet has all their models available in left-hand but I think one of the partners is left-handed and didn't want to be left out too.I would like all model in left hand please.
I think the finish in the second gen Penn Fathoms is sub par. The silver paint on two fathoms has dings after just ONE TRIP. I suspect it cost more to get the BLACK finish on the first gen Fathoms, but it is definitely more durable than the silver paint…My two cents…Reel to compete against Tranx 500 and black internationals.
The second Gens are subpar to the first Gen based on design alone.I think the finish in the second gen Penn Fathoms is sub par. The silver paint on two fathoms has dings after just ONE TRIP. I fish mostly in Florida and it’s bottom fishing for me. I go to Venice for Tuna and such. Having said that, I find that I barely use the spool lock when jigging in Florida and never when tuna fishing.Nothing is anywhere yet, that's why I brought it up.
He did mention instant engage, which I personally would not want, though I probably would want spool lock.
Its always good to hear what different anglers want.
I get what you’re saying and completely agree, but I’m not picking up on much hate, just spitballing ideas.I don't get the haters.
Penn revolutionized reel design 12-15 years ago with the Torque star drags. They have unmatched free spool, power, and line capacity. Nothing even comes close to what they did with star drags. The Daiwa's are nice but lack line capacity and the company is not responsive to its customers. Bring the Torques back, with one that is a little taller than the 25/30 size! SOCAL highliners will always buy them, especially if another 5 pounds is engineered into the drag.
The Fathom 2 speeds changed the game at intense fisheries like Guadalupe. They were cheap, indestructible, and free spooled like no other reel in its class. All of that was due to superior engineering, design, and state of the art manufacturing.
The Gen 2 Fathoms in some ways are better: integrated drag cam with a better drag curve and less variability in drag output, and much easier to service. They are narrower and lighter. People blame corporate cheapness; I see superior engineering. I do hate the paint. They are not perfect, but it is a great product at a fair price.
Penn has pushed the engineering, design, and materials further and better than anyone, while being more dependable than any other manufacturer, at a better price, and by far the best rep in the business.
