I went looking for kelp patties and 64 degree water before the swell picks up. I found some nice blue 64.3 degree water with thick bait at 40 to 130 feet. The tern birds were flying but they were not working and the Shearwaters and gulls were just setting on the water. I heard a guy on the radio say the bait was Saury but the meter looked like Anchovy. It really looked fishy to me even though I saw no sign of Tuna or kelp patties. I'm still looking.
Merry Christmas and Tuna thumps and screaming reels for you all in 2019
    Corey

I heard rumors as well. Guys fishing 30# to get bit only to have 100#+ unstoppable bluefin break off on back to back days. Diagnosed fortunately with terminal bluefin fever and dreams of New Years sashimi swirling in my head, I had to see if the rumors were true. My friend Roy on his 21' Champion and I went out searching on Monday the 24th while the rest of the world were in a frenzy of last minute shopping. We launched out of Dana Point and worked the 7-8 mile zone from San Onofre to Oceanside. Water was 63.5 to 64, tanzanite blue, glassy, mucho biomass, pods of paddys, porpoises feeding, gulls-shearwaters-pelicans but no tuna terns, and almost a perfect day on the sea. After a fruitless but recharging and revitalizing six hour search we surrendered. Then we played catch and release the rest of rays with schools of kamikaze crazy undersize calicos in the kelp line off San Onofre. Maybe it was a perfect day...

ps Independence returned from a 10 Day last week and fished somewhere for a day. One angler landed a 260# bluefin off the kite. Unconfirmed but probably SCI. January 6th is the next New Moon, hoping and praying for a repeat of the January 2018 bite!

    pss Happy New Bluefin Year!

Hysterical Hardcor. You motivated that green horn into digging through granite, mostly, LOL!

Without the pep talk that guy wouldn't have done shit.
