I'm buying a boat for the first time and I'm having a really tough time deciding between two types of engines.

Twin Volvo d4 diesel out drives 2007
Or
Twin evinrudes 250 etec 2006

Both with about 500 hours

Well if I go with the diesel it's going to be slipped all year, and the price difference is 30k more. But because it's a newer boat also. The boat with the outboards has 2006 etecs but it's a 1997, but it's also 30k cheaper.

If I go with the outboards I will only be slipping it 7 months out of the year because I'm able to trailer it. The diesel boat has a tuna tower that is too tall to be moving around, and it's a hassle to remove.

Lots of people put outdrives in the water fulltime. I've always wondered how they survive with nothing but a rubber boot keeping the water on the right side of the boat, not to mention electrolysis. Outboards all the way, and preferably in a configuration where they'll tilt fully out of the water for no electrolytic issues.

Also, if you put out boards in a slip, make sure you do your home work on the proper anodes to use.

My buddy just replaced two complete trim and tilt units on his Yamaha 4 Strokes. The boats is slipped and the T&T units went bad due to electrolysis. He went with aluminum anodes to stop this
