4/11- AMIGO out of Ventura sport fishing.
We'll to start this long story all start with my long last 24 hrs of my life. We left home (ridgecrest) last night at 2230 to get to Ventura. It's a 2.5 hr drive for us desert rats. The boat left at 4am for the ling cod Monday special. Arrived at the landing a little after 1 am. No sleep...... Loaded the boat very nicely, standard race to put your rod on the rail and bungee cord it down kinda set up.
We left the harbor around 0410 with some chovies and fresh frozen squid. Capt says we're gonna make the long haul to Santa Cruz and fish the west side, 3 hr boat ride, still no sleep lol.
We get to the island and the weather is beautiful. No swell light clouds and a small breeze. Time to start fishing.
Dropper loop style with two calico hunter hammers with red jig heads did the trick for me, first three fish were legal lings. Slow start with mostly legal or short lings.
We had no current for half of the day which made thing stuff but the boys on the amigo didn't give up.
I want to thank Johnny, Nick and Sam for sticking it through and putting us on fish. Guys once this started to bite it was limits of quality rockfish. Big chucklehead, reds, lings, some big angry cabezon and one nice goat. Not one salmon grouper!
The crew of the amigo is first class and chad in the galley serves up some amazing stuff. I saw some poached eggs on some fancy bread with chorizo on top for breakfast. That was a first for this type of fishing to have such a variety of food to choose from. If you ever have the chance fish this boat. Seriously you won't be disappointed.

Great report! The Amigo is really stepping up there game in every aspect. I was just down there last weekend working on their navigation system and the boat is looking really good. Can't wait to get out and kill some fish on it.

Great report and thank you. I was on the Amigo about 3 weeks ago. The weather sucked but Captain Jonny and crew never gave up. I appreciate kind of effort on a tough bite. Solid boat and group of guys. I'll be up that way again next week.

Oh and Chad in the galley cooks up a MEAN breakfast burrito and burgers.

I thought the Amigo had bunks, the run from Ridecrest is a tough one. I used to live up there for a minute, Lancaster is an hour and a half, still a drive just not as bad.

    Good report!

What is dropper style with hammers?

Is that a dropper loop, lead at bottom and u tied on two big hammers? Almost like a drop shot?

Yeah exactly, 12 oz on the bottom and two 5" big hammers tied with the dropper loop so we could change out colors or swimbaits as much as we wanted too. Big baits got us away from the blue bass. We caught a few macs and if u threw a slab on with a big 3/0 you were almost guaranteed a big ling. the amigo does have bunks but I still have a hard time sleeping when going out on a full day. Guess it's the kid stil in me full of excitement.

Fished her a few times last year, the Landing is top notch and the Amigo is smooth riding, 1st rate operation. Do you know if they did any further remodeling in the off season?

As far as I know, Johnny (capt) said he totally re did the wheel house with electronics that he wanted. This was my first time fishing it so idk what remodel they have done as far as the bunks and galley. As far as a open party or charter boat the amigo fits in with the rest of them in my opinion but the crew and cook set it apart.

They repainted it, tackle racks, new deck lighting, made the bow fishable by bringing the rail in so it's a much steeper angle, and a bunch of other various things. It's really nice and comfortable.

Nice report, I went down south jumped on the Pacific queen for a 1.5 day trip. Caught a couple of bluefin. Looking at a charter at the end of the month on the Pacific voyager, let me know if your interested.
