Been looking around and decided I want a dual console I'm just not sure which one to get. One is a 90 hydra-sport 20' vector dual sport with a 90 Johnson 200hp 2 stroke. The other is a 99 seaswirl 20' dual sport with a 99 evinrude 175 ram Fitch also 2 stroke. Both boats have same type of upgrades and trailers and both in good shape though the Striper is 4K more. I'm just looking for info on what's the better ride in windy choppy type seas and the better hull and the better engine? I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks

I had a 2000 striper WA great boat didn't have many problem but i had a Volvo IO now I would stay away from Fitch motors I know some say a few are good but why risk it.

if you going to re-power than get a price just for the hull.

I think he was saying he think sea swirl was cutting corners around that time.

I think it was later around 2002 or so when they sold and relocated.

they cut corners sealing fittings etc caused alot of wet deck core wood and rotten wood.

oh OK got it thanks for that... one thing I did read about the hydra is they claim the hull is made of Kevlar from stern to bow. I don't know how true that is or what the difference in Fiberglass vs Kevlar in the water?

Couldn't comment on either of the boats, but I can say that if that ficht is still running its one of the good ones. Yes, there were some turds in the batch, but it was new technology at the time.

I have a 1999 2150 seaswirl striper and have found it to be a good solid boat. Rides well, in fact as good or better than some more expensive boats. Mines an I/O so cant comment on the motor. Which ever boat you decide to go with get a survey done before plunking your cash down. Cheap insurance well worth the expense.

The Kevlar was not the entire hull, it was the keel and chines I believe. Kevlar reinforced fiber glass. Even then, not enough to make a huge difference, mostly a marketing ploy. The one we had was a 19' Hydra Skiff with a 130hp Johnson and was a solid boat and motor. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Hydra Sport.

There are other dual console boats. Skipjack for one. I have an Aquasport 222FFV. There is a walk-around Aquasport up here on CL for sale. Also a few Skippies. Both Great boats.

That's kinda what I though about the marketing ploy.

If you are commited to a 20' walk around/dual console, definitely don't rule out the Skippy 20 Open. Sometimes they come up for ridiculously good prices and they are a very sea worthy 20.

I've got a 1997 Striper 2150 that I've had since 2013...re-powered it from a Evinrude OceanPro 150 to a 300 hour 2007 Etec 200 H.O. and this boat has been awesome; it handle big seas like a much bigger boat...I'd recommend a Striper to anyone. I may be getting rid of it soon as I'm about to trade-up.

I've ridden on several Seaswirls, and only one HS. I'd take the HS anyday.

I'm an old school, heavy hull guy tho.......I'll trade MPG over comfort of ride every time.
