Thinking of heading to the airshow tomorrow, Saturday. Anybody done this one before. Is it a mess out there?

    Leaving from Dana Point.

parking in HB on the weekends is dicey even without an Air Show... so go early for sure... I live on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport a couple miles away... the cool thing is that the jets stage just southeast of us... so they drop in just over the Newport Pier really low and rip full speed up the beach toward HB... feels like the house is gonna rattle apart... pretty incredible... if youre not going for the booths and all the festivities Id recommend watching from West Newport... "River Jetties" area... perfect viewing spot...

Has anyone watched from the water. I was wondering if they restrict boats from any areas during the show?

Parked my boat right in front of the beach along with about 300 other boats. Go early (before 11am) to get a good spot and make sure you have good anchoring skills.

Awesome to have the Blue Angels fly over your head at show center.

The jets were awesome last year... anchoring, not so much.

It was obvious that some of those 300ish boaters had never deployed their anchor, nor had any concept of scope. When I tried to leave, a boat was directly over mine, fun times.

Anywhere near the pier is fine for viewing, no need to be in the mosh pit unless you like that sort of thing ;-)

I thought about it last year. I watched from the beach and honestly it looked easier to screw with parking my car than the boats. It was solid boys from the HB pier and east. You’d be better launching out of Alamitos Bay. Here’s a pic for perspective from shore. It’d be a killer view from the water though.

It was hot. And lots of people on the beach. Way too many boats out there for me. Tomorrow (Sunday) should be cooler.

We went Sunday. My son had more fun casting his crocodile than watching the planes. It was a little bumpy but not bad. Ton of boats but everyone was cool

I went out Sunday, it was great. Got lucky in the front row just south of hb pier.

Got lucky and the anchor stuck really well...but it got a little nervey having big and small boats all around me.

I had 2 anchor alarms set with very little tolerance, since boats were all around me.

I def did not get to enjoy the airshow care free, but....I was worried about the “what if’s” so.....I kept my riip brew stored.

Once the airshow did finish....I did see 4 boats with tangled up anchors. Pretty amazing to see anchors coming up together.

I’ll def do it next year.

The only issue....some large boats motored through some tight (I mean tight) locations.....Other than that....all good!
