Our good friend Felipe Valdez of the Hotel Buena Vista got this 61-pound roosterfish today [which unfortunately died] while surfcasting with a Rapala XRS14 in blue sardine

Too bad it died. Some pretty big swells coming through. That's a rooster of a lifetime coming from the shore without live bait.

    Steve,

I think it's the XSR 14 which is 1.5 oz.

If anyone deserved that fish, it's Felipe. No one else would have fought it so masterfully, or cared for it as much. I'd be skeptical at it's death if it were anyone but him. Plus, I think my homey Britt (works for Rap) gave him that bait! (and this awesome addition to the bar! With Claudia, Natalia, Manuel, Katie (Britt's wife), and me.) Great spot, great people! Congrats on the catch, amigo!!!

Looking at the pic, the tune "I Love This Bar" comes to mind. Great looking addition there.

My favorite thing about this pic? Claudia's adoring gaze. And tiny Natty with her virgin Pina Colada.
Time flies by. And shit goes away.
Pause, to recognize your place, and appreciate your people.
    Saludos y suerte, -Phats

(P.S. -- Britt and Felipe and Rapala are still at it! I believe it was a Mullet MaxRap 12, Panafishing.com, late March.)
