On the accurate website line calculator it says the 870n can hold 250 yds of .022 diameter line. After running the app with .012 diameter (40lb power pro spectra) it says this amazing little reel will hold 840 yards of line. Maybe i'm getting a little senile but does this seem like BS to anyone else?

I think thats way off. I am pretty sure last time I replaced the solid 50lb JB on mine it took in the neighbor hood of 350 yards with a 25' top of 40lb. I fish relitively full spools. I could be wrong on what mine took but I know it was no where near 800 yards and PP 40lb anint that much thinner.

On my last 870N, I put 420 yards of 50# solid JB on. And I fish them very full.

    You don't need an app.

Multiply the size times length that you know.

Take this result and divide by the size you wonder about. It will get you real close.

    In this case:
    22 X 250 = 5500

    5500 / 12 = 458 yards

First off DAVID......... everyone is not the fisherman you are when you can use 50' other will need 200'.... so lets get reel.... I do not have a 870N but I do have the 870C and a BX2-600 which really is the same size reel and I have 65# JB solid on both at 625yrds each, then a short 10' - 15' top shot. :jig:JigBastard

Hey not trying to pick a fight or anything but the 870 is closer to a bx500. The Bx600 is alot bigger. I am talking about the 870N (870 Narrow) which is a tiny little guy compared to the normal bx500/870C.
