How important do you think it is to impart action in your jigging?

I'm sure there's plenty of different situations and they are all unique but I've found from my experience that most pelagics at least tend to hit a jig better on a straight fast wind moreso that trying to impart any kind of "jigging" action to it. I see the slow pitch methods becoming popular, and while it looks like fun and seems very effective for fishing for bottom fish, it seems like a lot of work imparting so much action in the retrieve especially if one is targeting pelagic fish. Yes obviously pelagics can bite on most any type of action , especially when they are super eager, but I'm just wondering how other people's experiences compare to mine. Not trying to say I'm right and anyone else is wrong.

I think you’re confusing two types of jigging. Slow pitch, and speed jigging.
Probably as I don't know too much about either, I just know that when I target pelagics it seems like a fast straight wind catches more fish that trying to impart an action by raising and lowering the rod tip. Seems like maybe the other methods of imparting action are moreso for bottom fish from what I've seen. But even with lings, I think a straight yo yo action works better than anything

It varies greatly, slow pitch was designed for when fish aren’t taking the jig as normally presented. Like Hucklongfin I mostly yo yo. In recent years I’ve really taken to slow pitch, but it is a completely different animal and very specific set of gear to impart the correct action on the proper jig.

Seems like the slow pitch style can be kinda disruptive on sport boats from what I've observed as they tend to scope out more than a straight yo yo with a heavier jig. That said, maybe I'm not seeing it done properly as many people seem to be just getting into it

All jigs are different as everyone s saying. I like dropping down jig a few times if it doesn’t t work crank hard only half way up let back down and see what they like. People reel in the whole way I like to stay in the strike zone longer. Just my take

Yeah I definitely like to focus on whatever zone the fish are suspended at. Sometimes it's too much work and not enough payoff if you are cranking it all the way up every time. Recently I've been using metered braid and that's kinda fun because it eliminates some of the guesswork in regards to what depth zone I'm working
