I’m wondering what all the 43 spot hype was all about as l was thinking about pulling the trigger on an Oceanside to the Ridge trip which is the Upper End 181. Every day is different but l still use 40 Gallons and a full scoop and a twelver of Coors and a bucket of KFC It all adds up.
Today around 5:30 PM there was a mixed school of bft inside the 43. We were returning from the 381 (skunk) and saw boils the size of small dolphin. The bigger fish dropped out but we were able to throw jigs at the smaller fish but had to leave due to time. Skunk for the day
Left from Newport
14mb rolled up on Bonita boiling
277 nothing in the morning
Between 277 and 289 tons and tons of beautiful huge paddies with nothing on them.
Found paddy at 289 32.56/118.08 With big school of small yellows. Hooked 3, 2 came off early and got 1 to the boat and spit hook at gaff. Entire school starts boiling next to the boat and I put out 2 more baits and start throwing surface iron into the boil for nothing...
Ran back up to cat backside for big Bonita and a couple barracuda.
Beautiful weather today. Some swell but nicely spaced and relatively little to no wind.
9/24 Left MB around 9 AM and stopped at 5-6 empty paddies on our way to the 43, got there around noon and fished the kite till 5:30 PM without any signs of tunas, beautiful weather though. Good those plan to go out this weekend.
