Last couple of long trips I was witnessed to a very productive item. On June heat the bombs were extremely effective and I was careful to ask the big score guys what bomb they were using. Filing this away in memory, and not acting on it, and going on this last 14 day... The hot guys were fishing the same bombs. I think I am going to be ready for my next trip and get some of these...

Some hot colors: green, yellow or blue dorado. blue or purple and pink and blue and silver. Bob Cherry aka wahoo Bob fishes these now. Rigging wire needed and action ring or small swivel. 69 or 88# single strand wire.

Green colors on June heat, blue colors on the October trip.

I think them being 5 oz. may have something to do with their success.

Jorge on the RRIII (RIP) was one of the best hoo fisherman ever. He would do anything to get ahold of 5 oz torpedo's to make his bombs that killed the hoo also.
5 oz torpedo's are hard to come by. He said the 4oz or 6oz. just did'nt work anywhere as well as the 5 oz. I miss sitting up at night making bombs with Jorge.

Hey Billy - I hammered them on our June heat trip last year with my home made bombs. I can honestly say that every color was getting bit for me: blues, greens, purples & golds. I just went through all my jigs to repair skirts etc and did have a number of purples and blues that were down to a few strands of mylar. I do prefer my 5ozers over my 4ozers, mostly just becausre I end up with quicker sinks and therfore more jig in the water per stop time.

I would imagine that would be faster than I could crank. Most definitely would get bit, but the blade would want to torque the body around causing a twist in the line.

Well, not quite 200 but it was pretty incredible wahoo fishing down on the ridge for us on my charter on the Vagabond that returned this morning. We fished the area a day on the way down and a day on the way back up. Mauraders and large catchy-tackles to stop the boat, bombs and bait to finish them up. All colors were working. Yours truly ended up with 11 and my wife 4.
