Took the dogs out to the Horseshoe Monday, June 14. Excited for the recent posts about giant bass! Didn't find any giants, but got one at 22 inches. Totaled 34 mixed bass and rock fish. Fish and bait seem to be everywhere, no big concentration but all over. Some suspended, some tight to structure, some near the surface. Water Temps 64 to 65, green water with mixed clarity between 10-15 feet. One big pod of dolphin cruised through, not many birds close by. Also, have seen a group of jet skis (about 13) zipping by the last several times. Seems they make a trek to Catalina around 9am, usually from Newport, but this time from closer, like Huntington Harbor, just FYI.
All fish released on plastics, seemed green and mint the color of choice. Although, the red flake K-Man special did some serious damage, see picture. May have to get some more of these!
Beautiful weather early, slight breeze, sun came out early. Looked like Catalina was shrouded in fog most of the morning, then it drifted over us, and the wind followed. My swimmer dog found the huge swim deck the best vantage point on the Thresher boat. Steady pic all day, although had to move around a lot. Little confusing as fish came on structure while many were in open water between structure. Saw a big "pyrosome" looped on itself, probably 4 to 5 feet long, tried to get a picture. Had to deep release a couple fish once got to about 120 feet, too much work, Although my dog went to retrieve one floater.
Got a little nasty about 12:15, by 12:30 winds 12-14. Got all my fish by noon. Anyway, always nice to be on the water. Tight lines!

Thanks for the report. Was out to Jackpot rock and to the drop off. Marked a lot of bass and schools of bait throughout the water column. Caught some decent rockfish and a few bass. But was a little bit difficult as they were gording themselved on all the bait. Thanks for the nice pics.

Sounds like a nice trip. Of all the calicos we caught yesterday, only one had the spawning colors and they were vibrant.
