Took the dogs out to try the Horseshoe today. Exited the harbor to 7-8 mph winds, thick overcast, and cold water. Water Temps were between 61.3 and 62.7, not super clear water, no birds in the morning (they began to show up later), bait was around. Hard to tell how much bait with the wind and 2-4 swells.
Got three pretty quick then nothing. Hard to tell if there was current due to the wind. It finally slowed to about 6 mph for most of the day, that helped keep the plastics in the zone. Put 28 bass, mostly calicos in the boat, all released. Sizes were 12 to 17 inches, about 65% shorts. Tons of spots to fish here! Blowing too hard to try the deeper spots, most of the action was between 85 to 95 feet. Light bites. Several doubles on the calicos. The K-man specials are perfect for this area, probably got 50% on these.
Yes, dog went in the water today. She fell in the wind, swell, and excitement. None the worse. Saw some birds working in the distance and had to check it out. Mostly pelicans sitting on the water when I got there. 5 casts, 5 fish! All sand bass, and one big mackerel. Lots of bait in the water. Explored here for awhile then headed in at about 2pm. Blowing pretty hard, and cold! Got one sculpin to go with the mack, the 6 sand bass, and the rest calicos. Not sure if it shows but many calicos had a bright yellow "muzzle", spawning??
Anyway, hope the wind goes down, and the temperatures go up. Tight lines!

GREAT REPORT, info and pics. The dogs look STOKED to get out. Do they stay away from the Sculpin? Hope so. LOL

I keep hooked fish away from the dogs, big fear to send a hook into them. They luv being out there!

Yeah, spawning colors. Great job out there in not so favorable conditions. You're definitely making the best of your well deserved time on the water.

Now let's see your bass thumb!
