This what happens when you not paying attention to the mahimahi. This happened in Kona last week. Luckily its not my toe. Just thought I'd post this to remind us to fish safely. Ouch!!

never ever pull it out the way it went in... we keep heavy duty bolt cutter on the boat to cut the eye off - haven't had to use them yet (knock wood) - if you can leave it in then go to the Dr. w/ it still in (if you don't have to take it out to stop bleeding) - severe vein / tendon damage can result if you try to take it out the way it went in (no matter how carefully) -

    tight lines,

    OUCH!!!
Some would say; that is what the second hook is for. To further support the belief... 1/1/03, my previous boat, not my foot.

Here is picture I took of my friend who got this while pulling the 350lb+ marlin into his boat while fishing solo Waianae. He was all smiles though.

This is what happens when you bring a 30lb mahi in the boat in 2 min and it flips off the gaff in between your legs. Thank god for painkillers.:shithappens::shithappens::shithappens:

Shit happens. I once had the 9/0 trailer hook with the 20lb mahi still attached to the front hook go into the muscle of my forearm when I pulled fish into the boat. The boys dropped me at the dock and went back out fishing. Wife took me to the emergency room and they didn't have any bolt cutters and were going to cut my arm. i said no way. They ended up taking a short section small diameter surgical tubing and put it over the point and barb and then backed the hook out. Worked really well. May be a good idea to keep some stashed on the boat.
