Looking at buying my 1st fishing kayak, and I’m torn on going used or new. The outback seems to be the best bang for the buck. Any feedback much appreciated!

I have bought 3 Hobies used and they have all been good buys.Have one im selling as it has been replaced with another used one. There is a place that sells new in Belmont shores by the pier and also takes them used in trade on new.Might check with them.Looked like they had one on display last weekend. They show up on here also. That is how I got my last one.Tom

For the cost, I would by used.

Shit my 22' powerboat that I've been running for 10 years cost less the a new hobie yak.

If it’s your first yak I’d start with something cheaper and fish the harbors to see if it’s for you.
Although I would recommend something wide and long for the stability if your new to it. Now with that being said, it takes up a lot of room to store too.

Just some things to consider if it’s your first yak.
You’ll have a blast. Hit me up if you get one. We can buddy boat in the yaks. I live in Rancho too.

Malibu stealth 12. Got it off a member here. I only fish NPH on it.
I sold my last one because I got tired of it being in the way all the time and it wasn’t long before I decided to get another.
Check out OEX sunset beach for used ones too. Seams like they’ve been posting a lot of used ones lately

Go to the OEX Demo Day this Saturday in Sunset Beach...I be there representing Hobie Kayaks...Jim Sammons will be there for Jackson Kayaks and Andy the owner will also have other kayaks available for you to try.
IMHO these 'on-the-water' Demo Days are the best way to find the kayak that fits your body and fishing style.
Come on down and talk to two kayak fishermen/guides with over 30 years of experience between us...we'll help you pick the right boat for you.

Come on down to OEX Sunset Beach this Saturday and try out the "New" 2019 Hobie Outback...!

The weather finally looks like a dry weekend for some fun time on the water...
I'll also have a 2018 fully rigged Hobie Pro Angler 14 for you to peddle.
Both boats will have the Mirage Drive 180...

I'll also have a Bixpy Jet Motor and battery pack with the Mirage Drive adapter if you'd like to try this new kayak motor system .

If you buy a used hobie... do your homework!
The old design, pre 2008 I think, has a weakness right by the pedals that will cause your hull to be worthless if it breaks. It's the hobie with a small port on the front instead of the big door.
I have a 2008 outback and love it. Now I do wish I had the reverse like the new boats have, but $$$.

When you test them out... pick them up imagine loading it on your car or in your truck. When you are on the water, stand up!

Buy used ! my son and his friend both bought their Hobie's used. They saved a lot of money and also got some of the extras included like a bait tank and fish finder.I couldn't tell either one of them were used other than a couple of scratches in a few places.

If you're interested I have one for sell that I used 4 times in the harbor. I don't ever use it b/c of the boat. Has been stored inside in my garage. Below is the link to my post on the BD classifieds boat section. It's sand color with upgraded turbo fins and sailing rudder. Includes standard hobie paddle, dolly, high back seat. New in box lowrance color fish finder/gps combo and Brand new kfs bait tank system. PM for questions.
