Steve and I fished my sled out of MDR Sunday, 11-28. We hit the usual spots, saw lots of fish, but they were full of squid and not really interested in artificials so we switched gears. Not long after I had a trigger fish in the boat. Thanks Vince (red drum) for showing me how to catch those wicked little fighters some 20 years ago.

We hit several more spots and ended up at a ling spot where I got a personal best 18 pounder. It was a hell of a fight as I caught him on a bass stick and a Curado 300EJ reel with 15# line. I pumped him most of the way to the boat, but he had other plans, pulling drag nearly all the way back to the bottom. We finally got him to the surface and he barely fit in the net. We hooked another similar sized one on the next drop, but lost him to a bite off.

Water was 62-64 degrees, clear, and there was a downhill current. We ended up with 24 fish on the clicker. Would have been more if we had squid. Amazingly, traffic back to Diamond Bar was a piece of cake.

Question: Are there no lobsters in SMB? We didn’t see one commercial buoy today.
