I was trolling back from Avalon yesterday and metered some fish here and there on the way back to Dana Pt. I tried to drop some lures down once I metered but never got a bite or a look. Anyone have a guess on if these are big enough to be tuna marks, bonito or dorado? i assume these are too big to be a school of macks. This was around the 14 mile bank

Still trying to learn my sonar set up. thanks!

I don't believe the individual fish marks are enough to confidently identify the species. But, by taking into consideration the likely candidates and their behavior, you can make a pretty good guess. My guess is sand bass, based on them being widely dispersed and relatively numerous. But since you couldn't get one to bite, I really question that. it could be yellowtail, though in my experience they would rarely be that numerous and swim fast enough that they aren't in the cone long enough to give a wide mark (though your advance rate may be stretching that out). Could be tuna, In fact, I would probably talk myself into believing tuna.

That depth meter may be deceiving, I had it locked to 100’ depth but I was trolling over 2200’ depth coming into the 14. I don’t know sandbass behavior enough but I assumed they stick to shallow areas?

Small dorado breezing? Most likely fish to be around now, size and location wise. My 2 cents-
