Need help figuring my deadrise..

By measuring it I come up with roughly 17 deg. Using an angle finder on my phone I come up with 23 deg.

if you are using a electronic device you will need to measure both sides and average them. this will compensate for the boat not being level.
using the numbers you provided as a example.....

17+23= 40 /2 = 20 degrees. but you need to check it at the same place on the hull.

If you are trying to figure out deadrise to install a transducer, make sure you measure right where you are trying to install the ducer. These are very cheap from Harbor Freight and it's the easiest way to figure out deadrise.

Thanks all..

When I used my phones angle finder I did do both sides then average it out. One side was 20 deg the other was 26 deg. Also, after reading all over on line I believe my 1978 Wellcraft Nova 250 is a 24.7 deg deadrise but cannot locate exact specifics.

Now let me ask this, I am wanting to purchase the B175CHW thruhull transducer at 20 deg. Is my hull "to steep" to allow this ducer too function properly?

I am no expert but I know someone who shimmed their transducer with a gelcoated fiberglass wedge to create the correct angle. So that is always a possibility.

i asked some old time boat builders i know and yes it should be for that hull at about the 24 degree mark, they had 2 or 3 different decks for i, but the hull should be at about 24 and some change. as mentioned make a shim if needed.

The Nova has a shade over 24 deg deadrise, the same as my 7 meter Donzi. Dick Cole and Allan "Brownie" Brown stretched and sectioned the 7 meter mold to create the Nova after they left Donzi in 1970. You have a classic with a great rough water ride.

The best way to do this is to use a sliding T bevel and a protractor.

Measure the combined angle at the stern and divide by 2. that will eliminate any unevenness of the boat on the trailer.

I knew she was a hell of a boat but did not think of her as a legitimate classic but I do love the way she rides in rough seas. She is definitely getting what she deserves then, putting a pilot house on and new everything.. Im excited to get it done and get back out there.

Thanks all. I have the deadrise figured out. Research found it at 24.7 deg and with all the info above I came up with 24 deg. Way close enough for the info i needed.

These old boats deserve to keep on fishing. My 7 meter Donzi is getting new power and a bit of a face lift. It's served me well the last 25 years. Good luck keeping your old girl going.
