I'm stuck trying to decide in my last 40# reel. Mainly used for bait and looking for it to be my reel to really fling the bait out there if needed. My choices are as follows.

    Andros 5ii
    Andros 12nii
    Fathom 25nld2
    Avet mxl raptor

I can get the avet and andros for the same price, the fathom would be the cheapest option.

    Opinions?

find a livelier bait. Being able to fling a bait a long distance is going to kill it.

Another vote for fathom 25nld on your list but fathom 25n star drag is better for fling that bait :)

Fathom isn't only your cheapest option, it's also the best of your listed choices.

Nothing bad to say about any reel up there, but it's my personal opinion based off experience that the avet is a far superior casting reel to the others. I fish talicas though. And a 10ii would be my suggestion.

Joe, where would this fit in your reel bag? Like what other reels do you have for 40 lb and above/below that?

I have the Fathom 30LD2 that is my go to for 40 lb. Wider but not that much, with plenty of capacity, filled with 60 lb hollow. Would do a respectable job with 50 lb in a pinch, offering better drag performance and freespool than my other, (now, backup) 40 lb reel, a Shimano Tyrnos 12II.
