    Hello:

If I attempt to carry my 4 foot helicopter rod on board the plane to Hawaii, will they send TSA after me?

A helicopter rod is a short stiff rod used for offshore fishing. It has it name from offshore workers who don't want their rods to be damaged by the helicopter rotor blades when they are transported out to the rigs.

The better ones have small blocks (pulley wheels) to reduce the line friction.

Must be a gulf coast thing.

So, your question is: Can I bring a short offshore rod to Hawaii, in a rod tube? Yes you can

Carry on a 4 foot rod? No

But check with your airline of choice for extra fees.

Why not use the boat rods if you charter?

I think I saw a rod that had little pulley wheels on it once. Seems like those little pulley's said something like 'aftco' on them or something like that...?

Leave the Italians out of it. :D

Here ya go: Whopper Stoppers mini rod - custom fishing rods.

Best to bring it with you to an airport ticket counter and ask them in advance.
I'd pack it in a strudy case either way.
Either some asshole with an oversized carry one will shove it in the overhead crushing your rod.
    Or
They will decide at the last minute to toss your rod down to one of the luggage handlers to pack it into the bilge for the flight.
