Short version.
Oldest daughter and friends enjoyed fireworks show at Cabrillo.
San Pedro had pretty good sardines the next morning.
Guys enjoyed drifting the close oil platform … but not too close. lol

Just need to learn how to set the hook better or maybe a better way to bait the hook? We nose hooked the dines and caught a few fish but missed a bunch. The Calicos shredded the back half of the dines most of the time. Should I try butt hook or back hook the bait? Thanks.

All Calicos catch and release.
One Sculpin released cause Manny didn't wanna clean it. He was afraid of it. lol
One Whitefish … went with the tri tip on the grill later. Mmmmm Thank you Manny.

With calicos and big baits they’ll run with it a bit, stop then start swimming again. Wait until they stop and start swimming. Don’t need to get crazy with a hook set with sardines, just wind until it comes tight and lift the rod. You won’t get them all but a lot more. I was out fishing yesterday with big deans and we caught a bunch of bass on the big baits even the shorts
