Every year for Thanksgiving we camp at Campland in San Diego. We recently sold the RV so we rented a trailer and had it dropped in our site. I was stoked because that meant I could tow the boat and get a slip for the week. I entered into the Halibut Classic ran by Mike Petersen with a couple buddies and had a blast. Mike runs a great tourney from start to finish. With morning checkin, boat photos, radio give aways during the day and some food and a raffle at weigh in, it is a quality event. We didn’t land a halibut ( think we lost one on a lobster trap rope early afternoon) but we did catch a lot of fish. Sheepshead, Calicos, Sand Bass, Black Sea Bass (released safely) and a nice big keeper White Sea Bass for my buddy Phil. Almost didn’t fit in my fish hold!
Winning halibut went to a team with a 34lber. They also took 2nd place.
Can’t wait for the tourney next Thanksgiving!
Hope to weigh a fish next time...

Man, what a trip that was when you sent me the text and photo of this yesterday.

Just to let you guys know, ive never previously met BDer JustOneCast, and yet his buddy Phil just so happens to be a friend of mine from many years ago! Me and Phil never really hung out together so to speak, and never even fished together, and yet me and him would have some good talks about fishing, and would share techniques here n there. Phil actually shared with me some ideas long ago about a few different cool fishing techniques.....he's a real fishy guy.

I haven't even seen nor talked to Phil in quite a while, so it was a real surprise when you sent me this yesterday.....I was blown away and stoked to see it was him. What a small world man!

Anyways, thanks for the kind words, super cool.of you! Next time you catch something like that in my tournament, make sure and bring that bad boy to weigh ins. It might not be a Halibut, but it's still a very cool catch that's way worthy of getting weighed in and seen by the crowd.

    What a cool catch.....congrats!

Thank you Justonecast for the invite. I was lucky enough to fish this tournament with these salty guys. Felt good to gaff that fish for Phil. Thing was a beast and put up a good fight. Phil had the shakes for a while, talk about getting your blood pumping.
