Same old program launched out of Long Beach at around 5am and of course we skip bait because who brings bait bluefin fishing anymore. Anyways it was a beautiful crossing to Catalina and we got to the north side of Catalina at around 6ish. Went about 10 miles south of Santa Barbra island metered around for about 10-20 minutes and saw a absolute TON of bait at around 50 feet but no tuna marks at all but still trolled for about 20 minutes for the hell of it. Decided to bug out and went to the Osborn bank started metering around again same thing lots of bait but no marks but trolled anyways about 15 minutes into trolling we see a small spot of fish on top so there are fish here make a mile box around the area and 20 minutes later we are bit on the pink mackerel mad mac put our friend on it and maybe 15 minutes later we have our first fish on the boat probably a solid 50 pounder kept trolling for like 20 minutes and the ocean absolutely erupted with foamers everywhere at about 10:30. These fish were big. Landed my clear popper in the middle of one and I am bit after maybe 2 minutes of straight drag ripping I am almost spooled so I tighten up. It is either tighten up or get spooled at this point so I button the drag and cross my fingers and pop broke it off bummer. I think it was a 100+ stripping almost 25 pounds of drag like nothing. The foamers stop after about 30 minutes and we put the mad macs back out one short at 150 yards back and one in a different country like 250 yards back maybe 300 and 20 minutes later the one way way way back gets bit. Makes a massive run probably 150 yards off the bat. So it’s a big one. 25 minutes later and almost a man over board on a messed up gaff shot we get a 100 pounder on the boat. After we get it on the boat and take pictures we see a foamer and this one stays up for probably 45 minutes first 30 minutes was everyone casting in it and after I bugged my dad enough to troll am mad mac through it he finally listened and on our first pass with am mad mac through the middle of the foam spot we are bit. 15 minutes later a 60 pounder hits the deck. Go for another pass and we get short bit rips drag for about 2 seconds and pulls. We decide to go home because it is almost 2 and it’s a 2 hour ride into the dock. All in all the most epic day of bluefin fishing I think me and my dad have ever seen ever. We were 1.5 miles south west of the Osborn bank go get them.
