    I don't get this thread.

Captain Dave runs a premium sportfishing operation that serves a premium clientele. He's found a niche, and he's apparently good at what he does or he wouldn't be getting repeat customers.

He's also willing to share some information and techniques with everyone else via forums, radio shows, and other venues. Of course, he's not going to publically give out every last detail and location, because that would be detrimental to his own business.

Sure, I was a little surprised by the short time to land the big fish, but on a private boat with a good operator, it's certainly possible. If in doubt, go to Kona and see how they do it. They can be very fast.

So why all the flak? Sure, there are some promotional aspects, and not every detail was available in the report in question, but in the overall scheme of things, it's good information to have.

Thanks for the report, Dave, and I hope to see more in the future.

Information? Yummy on a kite, 200 braid, Makaira reel, weighed at DP. Dave talks at free seminars, provides Fishdope reports, and is a regular on Let's Talk Hookup. He invites people to contact him if they have questions.

I don't know Dave personally, but it sure seems like he is a pretty active contributor to the sport. Since he's out there practically every day, being willing to share at least some information is useful.

Sure, the original post here could have used a few more details if it was meant to be a report, but maybe all someone had to do was ask privately. If I made my living running a charter boat, I wouldn't post all the details either.

Jealousy is a not so nice version of flattery. The guys got scales and anyone who's spent time on the water knows, it's not a cake walk environment day in and day out, even on million dollar yachts, to make a living.

Captains as hired guns is a business as old as the sea. Today there are just different marketing methods.

At first I thought the time boasting was stupid, but considering the tackle and a well honed crew, they were puttin the wood to them. Bring an elephant gun to an elephant hunt, pretty basic logic .

You want a tip? Here is one. The sd fleet is killing the 50 to 80 lb yellowfin today. Get out from behind your computer and go fishing.

If this is about advertising, obviously all the "gonads" , "d-bags" and "those that never learned how to read" were not the targeted clientele.

Interesting advertising campaign strategy, that should probably be rethought.:imdumb:
