Good water no paddies

Headed to the 277 and worked our way to the 152 with a butt load of squid from Nacho. Not much life saving tons of porpoise. Did not find one paddy so we headed to the island to look for the yellows. Drove through a mass of Risso's chilling off the Slide. Heard on the radio a skiff got a 28lb tail dragging rapalas outside church rock but we opted for the warmer water on the front side. Mini bonito were wide open (must have caught and released over 80), but the yellows we marked in the middle water column wouldn't bite. Metered some good marks on a kelp in the channel (72 degree water) but no takers. Someone find some local tuna! I know they are out there...

Hi Mark,
we were the ones with the yellow (29.5 at the dock) from Church Rock. Lucky fish. We did a loop around the Avalon Bank down to the 267 & 14 for nothing. Weather was great. We did see lots of paddys on the 14 with only bait. There were some marlin off the slide but we did not try for them. The Fury was on those yellows as well but we did not see any caught on the boat. It appears to be a time of day thing as it shut down after around 1 hour and the Fury left.
40 gallons of fuel for one yellow is hard to take but its better than nothing and one big yellow is better than a limit of rats.
Lots of life at Catalina- looks like it may go off soon.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the response. You know what they say about luck? It's when preparation meet opportunity! Whats the name of your boat? We fish every Monday anywhere from PV to Mex so hit us up on 72 if you're out. May hoop the island next monday unless the reports go off this weekend as we have had a hell of a time trying to get the exotics this summer . Go get em!
