I should have plans in hand in less than a week. I have leads on some concrete guys but want to talk to a couple.

This project will be a LOT of concrete work. Taking out some concrete, putting in footings, a little bit of footings in place for existing walls, etc and pouring a bunch of slabs. It's a big project.

I'm broke but need to get this shit done. I'm looking for someone with experience that will work at a reasonable rate. We all need to feed our families.

Will give details when you contact me.

This is for my house in South Park in San Diego.

"reasonable rate" is a relative term.

    directly related to:
"quality of work in progress and finished job"
"gosh. I thought that wall was properly shored up"
"got anything good in the fridge?"
"no problem. those hold downs are only off by an inch or so"
"so what if its going to rain, I have a schedule to meet".
"there are no popsicles in the freezer"
"you wanted the rest of the house sealed off BEFORE we started cutting drywall and slabs? when does your housekeeper come?"
"you wife is missing some jewelry? so?"
"your fridge is out of beer"

Good luck with the extensive remodel/addition of your house while being "broke" and struggling to feed your family.

Call my buddy John, (619)8847886. He is a good o'l boy and I highly reccomend him. Great work and very fairly priced. Tell him I gave you his #, have him come out and look at the job, use him or not he will be real with you and give you a good understanding of what you're looking at.

Bert - i should have some plans in hand by next week - finally! We'll be able to have a real conversation then.

Jay- Thanks for the lead. I'll give John a call. This is a big job where I could use some good advice so I really appreciate finding someone that can give me perspective.

Wils - You seem to have a hard time reading. Not sure where 'reasonable rate' turned into work for free and do a shit job.

I'd be happy to tell you about why I have to do this job I wasn't planning on b/c the city is giving me shit about work that was done decades before i bought the house in 2006. About how they shut the electricity off and sent me a non-compliance letter all on shit that I had nothing to do with. I can also tell you how if I don't qualify for a loan that I'll be losing the house. But I need the plans and quotes on the work before I can apply for the loan.

And don't worry there's enough other folks out there that need work I'm sure I'll find someone that will work for a 'reasonable rate' and help me get this done.

    Cheers,

    Bert,
I've heard and have had to deal with your story many times before...'reasonable rate' is a relative term.
Good luck with your project and your loan process.

I'm confident you'll have no problem finding qualified people to work for a reasonable rate. Lot's of us needing work right now.
Glad you're finally getting your prints Joel, I know it's been a PITA.

In all fairness to Wils, I am in the business and understand where he is coming from, and it isn't anything against you blowboater... you have a job you want done cheap and the price is more important than the quality. You are typical of most people and that is why there are so many horror stories about remodeling etc. Don't get on Wils because he sees the obvious signs, and also knows the results, he is just being honest, why don't you do the same and call it what it is and not get your feathers ruffled because he did and it doesn't sound good. You will get someone to do the job and you will be able to get it done cheap, times are tough. When you are buying a product it doesn't matter who you buy it from it is the same thing, but when you are buying a service the out come will be as different as the last names of the people who do the work. Any one who is any good is not going to do the job cheap, why should they?? they didn't get good at birth, they paid for it. I wouldn't even bid on a job like this, why? just so someone will get it who doesn't know what they are doing or missed something in there bid. get some recommendations for good people, get three bids, that tells you if there price is in line. if one is way low or way high there is a reason. Telling some one you are broke but you are doing this big project is a joke, if you can't afford it then don't do it, why should he be any more concerned with your finances than you are with his? you may not like it, but this is how it is. I will leave you this... when building, all problems start at the concrete, on flat work... once it is done, its done, and either you live with it or you pay a lot more fixing it. good luck.
