Went down to Gonzaga this week, fished with Juan 4/5 and 4/6. The weather was a little rough but we ended up with some great fish to bring back home. Thank you for the trip Juan!
We spent a day in Gonzaga before going fishing, there are many beautiful places to visit around the bay. We spent time at the abandoned scallop camp, the beach behind Papa Fernandez and kayak fishing in the bay.
First day of fishing we started with cabrilla but they were not cooperative, so we focused in on gold spots so we could go for a big grouper. Ended up with some big bites but no big ones landed. Lots of gold spots for tacos at dinner.
Second day we went to the golden reef, there was a lot more life in the water. The sierra and yellows were schooling so we spent a lot of time chasing them around with jigs. Ended up hooking many but only landing two. Great quality yellows around 15 and 20 pounds. After that we caught a few gold spots for grouper bait and dropped down the biggest one, around 5lbs. I’m glad we did because we got slammed. We pulled up a nice grouper about 60lbs, a fantastic ending to a fun trip.
