I’ve burned, cut up, and removed more of “their” nets than you can imagine. I’ve been told I could have federal charges as of last year and just said it’s cowboys and (can’t say that word). It’s a joke. It’s all bullshit and ANYONE that tells me that that’s not 80% plus of the problem hasn’t seen it first hand. They ARE above the law. It’s “their” own law and when uncle is supposed to punish cousin, but the whole family will profit from the “fishing” , it’s a huge shocker.

One of the last paragraphs explains why no charges were filed. If you are in Pierce county make sure Mark Lindquist does not get your vote.

"The only similar connection Mr. Manzanares and the Hatch's have with the Pierce County Prosecutor's office is the fact that both the Tulalip Tribe and the Puyallup Tribe are financial contributors to Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist's re-election campaign, according to the Public Disclosure Commission and Financial website. The Tulalip tribe has also contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars over the last few years to the Democratic Party, which Prosecutor Lindquist has declared to be a member of," Sgt. Olson wrote.

    What a crock of SHIT!

Once again proves the corruption and partisanship within The States AG office, and apparently Pierce County as well.

Good to see Sgt. Olsen at WDFW write his email to the Prosecutors Office and call their BS out. Gotta give that guy props for calling their asses out!

I “worked” with a Wdfw officer who retired and he was spot on, if shit was illegal and wrong it was dealt with. His replacement is the spineless bitch and creates the reputation the department deserves. Always a reason or excuse why he can’t deal with the big problem but DAMN is he good at parking over the white line tickets and “warnings” on barbs.

    I'll just leave this here.....

"EVERETT, Wash. - People fishing without a license or other minor fishing violations are not being prosecuted in Snohomish County

The Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office has told wildlife officers it will no longer prosecute second degree recreational fishing crimes.

That includes violations such as fishing in closed areas, violating limits, illegally hooking, failure to record catches, etc…

Everett Fishing Store owner John Martinis reviewed dozens of cases rejected by the Prosecutor's Office and said it's a decision that can lead to serious problems for salmon and crab.

He said the word is out that you don't need a license to fish in Snohomish County and that will eventually force the end of some fishing seasons.

"We don't have any fish to waste," said Martinis, who owns John's Sporting Goods.

Prosecutors said the decision was made because the State legislature decriminalized minor fishing violations. They said instead of prosecuting misdemeanor crimes, they requested Fish & Wildlife officers write infractions that carry fines but no criminal prosecution.

They also point out their office prosecutes 90 percent of wildlife crimes other than second degree fishing.

State Fish & Wildlife officers report they investigate dozens on second degree fishing crimes during busy fishing days."

So I agree with the frustration but what’s more important minor Fishing violations or property crime? Or should we spend more tax dollars on that vs other stuff like schools? Or just raise more taxes?
Tough decisions that leave some frustrated no matter what is decided.

Also fucked up is that apparently wdfw can slap a gps tracking device on your boat without your knowledge.

Problem is these guys didnt get the memo that the higher ups are the ones providing cover for this racket job.

My post was more a shoe on the other foot example. Tribes aren’t the only ones getting off easy... Regulation, monitoring, oversight and enforcement are struggling across the board for F&W issues.

That article says they are encouraging FG to write tickets instead of court summons for minor fishing crimes in snohomish county.

Big difference between recs getting a ticket instead of criminal prosecution for slightly undersize crab or not writing your catch in the CRC, vs a commercial harvester selling thousand+ lbs illegally and getting off with nothing at all.

And what happens if you check the dispute box on said ticket and take it to said court?

Actually it’s not different, hundreds of individuals taking a few lbs each of 1 dude taking a bunch, doesn’t matter.

I’ve spoken to people who “don’t care” and fish daily in 8-2 and 9 because it “doesn’t matter”.

Huge difference between guys eating their catch versus poaching for cash, I don’t care if they are tribal or not. Your article says enforcement is still writing tickets for violators just not prosecuting as felonies which is probably the right thing for most infractions. Worst part is Joseph Hatch was the Tulalip resource director.

Then... it's still an infraction, and not a misdemeanor or felony for which a court summons is mandatory. I don't think you or those people understand the difference between infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies so they don't understand what that article is saying. It's not free for all fishing.

If they are fishing in closed areas or without licenses they can still get ticketed. If they commit a more serious offense they can still be charged with a crime and go to jail.
