Regarding the GO ID numbers that all the recreational lobster buoys have to be labeled with now, does the person the number is attached to have to be aboard every time, or can you number a buoy but not have said person aboard for whatever reason? In my case, I have 5 attached to my number and 5 attached to a friend's number, but said friend might not be able to fish the opener with us at the end of the month. Can you have more than 1 GO ID number per buoy or do I have to switch them out every time someone can't make it with a different number?

I was just reading the regs last night and I believe it said you need the owner of the traps written permission on your person and their info

That's kind of what I gathered, but typical of DFG, nothings very clear. I emailed them a while back and got no reply. I also read you could have multiple numbers on 'shared' buoys, but I'm not sure what constitutes a 'shared' buoy...

You CAN have more than one set of numbers on your buoys. If you don't want a set of numbers permanent use duct tape and write the number on that.

So if I own 10 hoops, I can put my GO# on all 10, and add the GO # on 5 for whoever I get to fish with me?

Yes. But to clarify, if you have a GOID# on a buoy that person must be on board or provide written authorization with all current ID info to use it. A text message with a pic of drivers license will work.
