Once again, another new rod for Joel Vance of Lakeside Bait and Tackle. A Calstar GF700XH with a new spin on his old color combination of MANY years! After tiring of multiple brands of metallic purple fading from exposure to the UV's...........he decided to replace it with a shade of gunmetal from the ProWrap catalog. Going to be a cool change, and still blend in nicely with his older sticks.

    Nice work Jim.

I keep hearing about metallic thread color fade, but I haven't noticed it myself on rods that are in the Baja sun a lot. Wondering why gunmetal would be different than purple too.

Bill..........I haven't had a huge problem across the board with all the metallics, but purple was always a problem child. Been using a lot of ProWrap purple lately. The jury's still out on that one. I hope it works out better. Time will tell.

    Jim,

1st time seeing mixing two different guides on a same rod other than the regular roller striper and ring running guides, but a rod like this one with a big HB striper guide and the rest diff running guides is new to me.

in my short time on rod building I already have some left over guides and I was thinking to do the same to complete a set with a striper guide different than the running guides but wasnt sure if it was "politically incorrect".

This is a case of the stripper guide being a 25mm that wasn't available in the casting guide style. Been done many times.
