Hi everyone,

After a 10 year hiatus, Im getting back into saltwater fishing and going on an overnight trip September 17th out of San Diego.

I got rid of the majority of my saltwater gear when I started college 10 years ago, and now that Im getting back into it, I picked up a new 30lb and 50lb setup. I still have a variety of terminal tackle from when I was actively fishing years ago (hooks, a few sinkers, a few irons).

These are the setups I currently have:

25lbx2
30lb
50lb

Im open to buying one more setup, leaning towards an 80lb. Any suggestions on what else to bring tackle wise on an overnight trip? My brain has been solely focused on bass fishing the last ten years that I am quite rusty when it comes to saltwater fishing, so any advice would be welcomed!

welcome back! id shoot for a 25/30, 40, & 80/100 setups. for overnite will prolly only need 25/30, maybe 40. i’d keep your best 25/30 n sell/trade other 2 for a jig stick and 80/100 setup.

If you don’t care about trolling lugs, the Penn VISX 12 is a not so heavy, heavy framed reel that handles 80 superbly.

The Penn Visx 16 is heavier, but will fish 100lb well and has trolling lugs.
