Well... Who isn't tired of those foamer schools of bluefin sinking out after 20 seconds and not biting?

Might want to try a few other tactics, including fishing deep with downriggers while slow trolling live bait....

Just read a report on social media catching a 200lb+ BFT 75ft down on the downrigger slow trolling with a live mac.

The deeper fish hopefully not as 'spooked' about all the boat traffic, etc....

Anyways, bluefin are super finicky, worth giving another tactic a try when that popper cast right into the middle of the school just isn't getting bit...

What about vertical jigging? Anyone trying that at all?

I think some guys are definitely dropping the flat falls deep and getting some fish. Seems that bluefin are so finicky you gotta try a few different methods. Doesn't hurt to try them all if one isn't working that well. I think in the end persistence plays a big part, but I know some guys who have fished all day for 12 hours and still got the skunko... go figure.

Flat fall or Flat side? How Deep? Been dropping iron for years on kelp hoping for a Opah. fish of a few lifetimes.

several guys caught BF up this way last year using DR's. I've been wondering if it would work south on shy fish,,,gregg

There were a LOT of bluefin caught off Santa Cruz and Bodega on downriggers slow trolling macks. I'm anticipating we'll see them again up this way this year.

I have been meaning to give this a try this year. I just may dust off the DR's and bring them along next week. It will be easier than trying to get those damn kites to fly! Thanks
