I just booked a spot on the Sea Adventure 80 for a 3.5 day trip. And I see this on the landing website; "The bigger fish are coming in! Bring 30, 50 and 80 pound setups if you’re on a 1 day trip or longer!"
I don't have any 2 speed reels, but I do have a Penn 6/0 and a 6/0 Wide, both have 50lb mono. If I put 80lb mono on the wide, would that suffice for the larger fish that might show up? I know that a 2 speed would make life easier, and I'm not against getting a 2 speed. I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg. I live in Chicago, I'd only fish it once, maybe twice a year. I know I could rent, but I'd rather buy one than rent one. It's a guy thing...
Thanks.

Last weekend I got destroyed by those big bft using a single speed reel. If I were you I'd buy a two speed.

Next year I'll have a penn fathom 40 n two speed. Would have given me a fighting chance.
