It looks like the oil rigs are on high spots.

All the rigs have signs posted to stay away 300 yards or something like that. None of them care if you are fishing right next to them. I have been asked several times how the fishing is or they have told me to try a certain spot.

Be smart. Aware of any incoming service vessels, swell, wind, drift, etc. Listen to the direction of anyone on the rig. Like Jeff said. Most guys on the rig are cool and like to watch you catch fish and will often steer you to the fish or give you tips. If for some reason, whatever it is, they don't want you within 300, maybe the white shirts are there for instance, they will let you know on the bull horn.

I agree with what Woodman and carpfisher said. Main thing to watch for is the service boat and the cranes when they swing it out over the water. I had a guy yell down to me they were going to use the crane and suggest I move to another part of the rig in case something fell. 99% of the time the guys on the rigs are cool.
Also learn what the Sheriff's boat looks like and when you see them, reel in and move away from the rig. Usually they'll circle the rig and bail if everyone is plays the game of move away. The guys that don't move are the ones that get a talking to and make all of us wait till their conversations are over.

Should be cool as long as you stay out of the drink.

You can't fish out there it's outside the 75 fathom lines. If you try and fish shallow around the rigs best not have rockfish on the boat.

You can fish there as long as you don't have fish on board subject to the "depth" restriction.

Bass and yellowtail ok, sheephead and rockfish not ok...(not a complete list obviously)

yes the line moves from 60 fathom curve to the 75 fathom curve in march, but the the exception still reads:
"EXCEPTION: During the open season, groundfish may be possessed in closed areas and in water depths closed to fishing only aboard vessels in transit with no fishing gear in the water. See Section 27.20(b)."
I don't know which you were referring to but the no fishing in areas off limits to groundfish with groundfish onboard is still there.
