Lost a gaff yesterday on an ono, didn't have it tied down and the fish made a unexpected move. Went to POP and saw the carbon fiber gaffs. Figured they float so good but was worried about how strong they were. Anybody know anything about them? Thanks for any info.

Most AFTCO gaff are floating.. Or test all gaff see if float or not, go home depot or local hardware store.. Buy Tuff stuff foam spray and fill inside gaff shaft tubing.. So it will be floating..

Always have 4-5 gaffs in boat ;)

Make your own with pop gaff heads and post hole digger poles from home depot. Ends up being 20 bucks a gaff and you won't have to worry about breaking them and they float.

buy a wooden dowel and gaff head and make your own.... fishing is expensive enough without paying $80-100 for a gaff

Thanks everybody for the info. The one I dropped was an aftco so maybe it was floating but with all the waves and chops we couldn't find it. I used to carry 4 gaffs plus two slide gaffs, now down to three and 2 slide gaffs heh heh! I think I'll get another but foam fill it or run a dowel inside this time. And also tie it down.(the one I dropped had a rope on it, just thought small ono no need to tie down, oh well live and learn)

Steven, send Glenn (Force21) a PM. He makes nice and sturdy gaffs.
