Full day Sun. 9/18 - Why I will NEVER fish the Malihini again

If there wasn’t more than one licensed captain on the boat, they need to by law be back. Max time at the wheel for a captain is 12 hours. The San Diego runs with multiple licenses, as do we. How big were your Bluefin? If they were the 5-7 pound models we’ve been catching close to shore, there’s no real meat to the schools and the jig strikes have been random and 0-1 bait fish per stop for the last month. For the past week the bluefin were setup on a 3/4 degree break on the way out. We would pass through there, have one stop and never see them again. That’s my observation of what you encountered, from seeing what’s there as we’ve fished the last 27 out of 28 days. Best luck next time

Interesting, didn't know about the license issue. The BFT were about 15-20lbs, good enough grade to keep fishing but lesson learned I guess...

It's Ridiculous holding the boat up for one fare, But not for the owner! It goes to show you money speaks before customer satisfaction, It's sad but a few of the boats will put the few extras bucks to make and loose clients. That's why that boat and the other boat the same owner owns seems to never fill up (if they do) when the other boats are almost always full.

45 is a stretch even for bro treatment the longest I ever waited was 15. While un fortunate I’m more than sure that was a one off event.

Yep I agree John. Someone was the lucky beneficiary of bringing in a fish. I’ve been on both ends of that spectrum. It’s what keeping us coming back for more opportunities!

This was the statement that threw me off. I'm pretty sure once the operation is on the water fishing, that they do care if their patrons go home with fish. It's not something they can control, even if they were on the water for 12 hours with more than enough bait.

13 passengers caught 50 yft and couple bft today with Captain Bill. Plenty of room at the rail.

Let me get this straight...you are losing your mind over the 40 minutes and the whole whopping $14.50 they ripped you off for ?
You would probably have a stroke if you fished long range and the boat was scheduled to return at 8 am and got back in the harbor at 6 am after an 8 day trip.

Not that I care but did you even talk with the owner of the boat and share your concerns about getting ripped off for 40 minutes of fishing or did you just choose to share your petty concerns here on BD ?
