    Yo Brudda Tim.

The Feds want their winnings of the raffle too.

If the prize for the raffle was $600 or more, you must fill out a 1099-MISC and mail the correct sections to the winner of the raffle, the IRS (federal) and the Department of Revenue (State).

    That sucks donkey balls..............

If he can afford the taxes....take the boat. Davis boats are GREAT RIDES and having the last one ever made is icing on the cake.

    or

Sell your boat and split the tax bill with your buddy. Then you get to use that awesome boat for little money in.

Depending on how technical we want to get, the statement of "There will never be another Davis Boat" is incorrect. :D

Now if you put in your reply that " There will never be another Davis boat made" then that is correct (so it seems), but there are plenty of other Davis Boats out there ;)

The Davis Boats will still be made (same hull, same molds) under another name, Davidson Boats I believe.

    Who's getting technical now!

There will never be another Davis Boat made, period.

Not saying Davidson wont be as good or better.

    Regardless.....DONT TAKE THE MONEY!!!!

25K vs New Boat - 30K is a way better deal!

You could easily finance the cost of taxes and still have considerable equity left.

    TAKE THE BOAT!!!

Come to think of it. This tax thing happend to me a long time ago. I was actually thinking about it on Saturday.

A long time ago, a buddy and me just finish off a J of the super stank and went into McDonalds to get some Shamrock Shakes. This was when they had the " Win a Week at Disneyland" sweepstakes.

He pulls the tab on his drink and wallaaa....the GRAND PRIZE...a one in a billion chance. He handed it to me and said "I don't want it" after asking why he said "Don't want to pay the taxes"

I sat there with this grand prize ticket in my hand and thought for way too long. Then proceeded to hand the winning ticket to the 16year old cashier.

He looked at me funny and said you won. I then told him I don't want to pay the taxes, and we left with our green shakes.

Dammit if I don't kick myself every time I think of that. In my defense....it was some really good shit! ....and I was only 19.

(10.5 %), That is just the sales tax. The 33% is state and federal income tax owed from the 1099 Misc that you will be receiving the following January!

    Why would he do that?

Taking the boat will cost him about $33,000 in taxes, then take $30,000 from you and loose $3,000. Ya right!

KEEP IT, AND PAY THE SALES TAXES...IF YOU TAKE THE CASH, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY NEARY 50% TAX ON THE CASH, AS IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED A PRIZE WINNING, SIMALR TO THE LOTTERY. BUT HEY, DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT. GD CAP KEY.

Talk to your tax guy. You would be on the hook for quite a bit of cash. It would be classified as income then you would pay sales tax. 40 k. Great if you are in the market for a boat, but if 40k is not burnin a hole on your pocket.... it will be tough. And if you did get the boat.. then you got a a great deal on an $85k boat.

well here is the update, my buddy has to pay the 33% and sales tax up front, have insurance and DMV registration taken cared of prior to taking possesion of the boat. it comes out to about 50% off M.S.R.P., great deal if you are shopping for a boat and just so happen to win this raffle, but other wise its just a cash giveaway if you dont have a bankroll to burn! did i mention thats just for the hull and motor!! how many great deals are there out there rightnow for fully rigged boats??? well at least he won! and they are sweetening the deal by throwing in a 10 day trip for one. no wonder 90% of the friends of rollo winners take the cash.

Yep taxes on winnings lets you keep about 55% of value, unless he has the cash to pay the other 45%..........go with cash and buy a used one!
