Having read about all the recent reports--seems there are few if any large squid to be caught for bait on the long trips. I found, at a local Chinese market here in Salem, Oregon, some beautiful 12"+ fresh frozen squid at a reasonable price. It is about half of what they get for similar nice product out of Florida.

Looking for thoughts on worth-it-or-not to bring along on my 15 day in February on the Intrepid.

Thanks for your insights.

Hmm...first, call the Intrepid's office to see if they are already providing frozen squid for your particular trip. Second, you're coming down to SoCal...99 Ranch, Zion Market, and HMart are not that far away from the landing if you really need to buy your own frozen, food-grade squid.

X2 ..Zion Market , HMart fresh !
My buddy Martin always brings fresh squid on long range trips on the Royal Star.
He flylines , and use on kite.

Sigmund,
Did you ever get any notion that Martin was onto something?

Actually, Martin is often passed out in the galley...

Been on a few trips with him - I haven't noticed his squids getting bit any better than the fin bait.
