Caught a 298.8# with 30# of drag and kept it as a souvenir. it was the first time I tied a Springer in 130# Premier.

I have replaced the (whatever some wants to call it reverse trilene knot)

With the 2x2. For too many reasons to list. For 2 loops around the eye and low profile ect ect. Remember to leave a tiny bit more of tag end so the knot doesn't slip when cinched by 300 pounds of fury. For all big fish knots

I did save the hook and knot from either the 283 or 298. I straight tied both. Knots looked like a jewel. Not sure where it is now

But the 2x2. Less things and wraps to go wrong

Here is a perfect single SD tied with 50lb. Same knot I landed a 170lb YFT on a single SD with 50lb line. On a high speed Trinidad 30. Fishing wahoo

I applaud the OP for bringing this up, tough love! I am one for testing everything I create to see if it is at least "strong enough". I think, from the posts here, most only consider "strong enough" which is fine, we use such relatively heavy gear it usually works. As "Fissybiz" has often said "hook your rig to something solid and try to break it with your rod standing on your own 2 feet.

We are packing for our upcoming trip on the Excel but I have done a bit of flouro knot testing too be sure mine are "strong enough" Haven't had time to do failure pulls but with my spangler? (sp) in 100# Sunline and 100# yo-zuri flouro and 100# soft steel mono hold 60# consistently . in 130# yo-zuri , 75#. Will do pull to failure if I have time.
