You crack me up, Nate. It's hard to cover all the bases with flat falls. They catch everything! Besides, we're in SoCal, the land of custom fishing equipment!I understand the need, but also think it is crap that Shimano can't build em right out of the package. I don't want to tinker!
my thoughts exactly. with all the guys getting sawed off as the tuna inhales the jig, has anyone tried wire? i rigged a few with wire for a trip, but the boat went south paddy-hopping. there went my shot. so did not get to try them. a short piece of "KNOT 2 KINKY" wire i think would work. to a wahoo style ring, etcAnybody tried a length of multi-strand wire instead of the heavy fluoro for abrasion resistance? Are these big BFT that line shy? My understanding is that the flatfall bite is more of a reaction bite anyways so it might not matter and chew-offs would be a relative non-issue.
great job, what weight & color flat fall did you land that beast on ?thanks to this thread I swapped out the stock hooks on my flat falls and put 7/0 Owner single hooks on, literally last Thursday night before boarding the Tribute for an overnight trip. I was rewarded with a 118 lbs blue fin 12 hours later on the flat fall. Fish inhaled the whole thing. The first thing the captain said once we got it on board was, "oh good, you had the right set up with your flat fall!"
