    First time 7 day trip. Was booked on a 5 day on the Intrepid leaving the 7th but it got cancelled, so switched to a 7 day on the Excel leaving the 8th (June). Good move? What can I expect?

    Allan,
    You will go to the rocks on that trip, unless you get stuck on the Albacore too long. Fishing the rocks you will need a 40,50 or like a 60lb setup for your reels. If I were on that trip I would bring 20,30,40,50,60,80 lb test. If you have 100lb you can toss that in too but if you go to the rocks I like to use 50 or 60 too see whats up. They will tell you or just ask. As for hooks. Owner 1/0 2/0 3/0 4/0 and 5/0 is what I like but heck I take it all. LOL The yellowfin at the rock go 40-80 and can go up too 100lb. I think you might be too early for the wahoo. That heats up around the first week of Sept till about mid Oct.
    The 80lb outfit you can troll with and dropper loop with it for big yellows.
    Here are the trips I booked this year.
    (Intrepid )
    July 8-16 (8 day )
    Nov. 12-23 (11 day )

    (Polaris Supreme)
    Aug. 25-Sept. 3 ( 9 day )

    (American Angler)
    Dec. 26- Jan. 5 ( 10 day )<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    I have not been on a 7-day on the Excel - just 10-17 day. It is the biggest boat in the fleet. Plenty of rail room. The staterooms are nice. Two of them have private heads/showers. Crew is great. Plenty of room to store tackle. Largest bait capacity in the fleet. You will have a great time! Post a report.

    Yes I was on the Excel about 10 years ago on a 10 day. Nice boat and the hallways are wider than most boats. I jump around alot from boat to boat. This is one of the larger boats in the fleet. Right now I like the Intrepid and do at least 2 trips a year on that boat.

    I fish the Excel a few times a year and have fished the RP, Indy and Intrepid. All are great boats. I do feel that Excel has the Largest fishing space and excellent tackle storage which is important for tackle whores like myself. The bait capacity is incredible and Capt. Fleck is not afraid to use it. Fleck is very fishy and goes off the beaten path to find fish. I have woken up to the sound of the anchor in places that I haven't been before with any other boat. That said I don't think there is a bad boat in the fleet, they are all different. Sorry to hear your Intrepid trip got cancelled but now you have 2 extra days of fishing.

    The Fleck twins, Jason/Justin, are simply great. Soft spoken but they know how to fish. Add to them, lead deckhand/second captain, Mike Ramerz, Jordan and the rest of the deck hands. You are in very good hands. The Excel is the only boat I've fished and haven't needed to look elsewhere. They quietly go about their way.

    I'm partial to the Excel. Over a football field of rail. Bait up the ying yang. The BEST tackle area. And a great crew & skipper.
    I'm there to fish not watch TV in my stateroom (porn excluded).:boobies::boobies::ashamed::Exploding_Smiley::Bathtime_emoticon::Smoke_Emoticon::_diarrhea_::shakin::gayfight::rofl::nutkick::food-smiley-014::D:beerbang::smash::appl::rockin::Singin_In:deadhorse:_happytos:dogpiss::cow::cussing::chestram2:spank::drool:
