Is fishing with short rods like a Black Hole 250 gram ( 5’4” ) a problem on the SD charter boats ? For the fisherman or for the crew ? I fish out of my own skiff but I have never fished for pelagics from on one of the SD boats .

Should be totally fine. Usually, it's the longer rods that get in the way.

Most seem to have a Y on the end of a pole to push line away from under the boat. That would be the only issue with a big circling fish at the gaff.Tom

A true jigging rod in full bend isn't going to leave you a lot of room to go over the land whale in the corner. Definitely bring it, it'll be great to fish, but that's something to think about.

Saw a very skilled fisherman lose a very nice bluefin on a short parabolic jigging rod. He could not prevent it from getting into the hardware under the boat when it was at color. Very valuable lesson learned there for me.

Thanks for the feedback . I wasn’t really planning to fish big Bluefin with it , but I guess you never know for sure what your going to hook .

I might have been a bit harsh, but on our last embarkment there was one individual whose lack of balance and momentum almost sent me over the rail without anyone the wiser.
