I've been down to Cabo area many times and fished most of our trips....but always from a boat. Will be down in a couple weeks staying on a property that is on the water with what should be a decent "reef" to go along with the sandy beach, etc. (about 15 miles north of San Jose) It appears that Sierra and perhaps Roosters are possible. Any suggestions/advice on gear? Will have a 10' Spinning Rod/Saragosa 10000, and ability to chuck up to 5oz. We are fishing with Gordo Banks as well but would be sweet to make something happen from the beach.

Stay with hard baits. Plastics get hit and bit to pieces with those toothy shore fish.
My best from shore was a 20 +lb Jack Crevalle that slammed a 5” yozuri jerkbait in 2 feet of water right in front of me.
15 lb test mono- took drag down the beach for a 1/2 hour till I turned his head.

Skip jigs are best. Roberts rangers, or anything that you can burn on the surface. Those warm water fish like a FAST lu
These Roberts Rangers aren't easy to find anymore! I did find one in my L.R. box though! Thanks for all of the feedback gents, much appreciated.

More of a reason to go hit up one of the tackle shops down there. Almost a guarantee they have a stock. Roberts rangers and surface tension lures are a staple down there. I have personally caught a dozen or so roosters over 50lb on those two jigs. Just remember, you can’t wind them fast enough.

Dude…..
I have wanted to do that the past couple times but have been talked out of it. Please post your results, what worked and what didn’t.

There is a dude on YouTube that owns a shop down there and has some cool ass content.
