Fished the horse shoe today 7-13. Launched out of Huntington Harbor around 6am done by 11:00. Bass were bitting really good caught around 30 shorts and 5 nice ones. We caught them on 5 inch red or brown swimbaits, Hook up baits and even on the iron. No sign of baricuda.
I went out on Wednesday to the Shoe and found Mackerel and Barracuda working bait balls of micro anchovies. I threw a Tady 45 and managed 6 legal Barracuda throwing about 10 shorts back. The water was clean enough to see the marauding Barries below the bait balls. I would have 2 to 50 followers on the jig as it came to the boat. Lots of swing and miss. I think they are there but don't want the jig when the chovies are an easy target. Bleed em right away, ice em. At home, fillet em, no bones, no skin, no dark meat..... nice eating fish. Keep the rib cage meat and smoke them with apple wood. Beautiful day. Chris
